The meeting will be from 7 to 9pm on Thursday 23 February.In the European Parliament, Sarah Ludford has been a prominent and active campaigner on measures to combat human trafficking and sexual crime and to aid the search for missing children. She is in the forefront of action on equality and diversity, and is a vocal campaigner against anti-Semitic, Islamophobic and homophobic hate crime, while upholding the right to free speech.Sarah Ludford has been the Lib Dem MEP for London since 1999.     • Hackney Lib Dems Food for Thought: Will the west go to war with Iran?
      Social event on Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 at 8.00 pm. We are delighted that Jan Morgan will be hosting this event and providing her excellent home made food.Recent opinions put forward by the Republican candidates in the US presidential elections and from the Israeli government suggest that an attack by the west on Iran is becoming increasingly likely. The reason given is the alleged development of nuclear weapons by Iran, and the need to prevent them from doing so. For our Food for Thought event we will be looking at the likelihood that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, whether Israel and the US will decide to attack Iran anyway, and what is likely to be the position of the British Coalition government if they do. Iran is a bigger country than Iraq, so the fallout of attacking Iran could be every bit as significant as the war in Iraq. Will the Liberal Democrats, under pressure from being in Coalition government, be on the right side of this very important argument? We are delighted that our guest speaker will be professor Paul Reynolds, who gave an excellent presentation of the situation in Afghanistan in Hackney 2 years ago.       Social event on Thursday, September 6th, 2012 at 8.00 pm. Whether your tipple be a hot chocolate, real ale or glass of wine - all are very welcome from 8pm onwards. Liberally minded people of all parties and none meet up and have a chat on the first Thursday of every month in the Hyde Tavern, Winchester. The Hyde has an enlightened policy towards ordering in food, which means that we often order in Indian or Chinese to accompany the excellent real ales, wines, hot chocolate and soft drinks on offer behind the bar. There is no need to book, just turn up at a time which suits you and stay for a long as you like. And if you want to host a Lib Dem drinks nearer to home get in touch - we are always up for trying out new places.
