A delegation from the ALDE Group in the European Parliament, led by Diana Wallis, Vice-President of the European Parliament (Lib Dem, UK) and Jelko Kacin (LDS Slovenia), hosted a regional European liberal democrat conference in Sarajevo on Friday 7 May.
This conference/workshop brought together ALDE members from the European Parliament and leaders and senior representatives from liberal democrat partner parties in all countries in the Western Balkans. The conference examined how the reform process in Western Balkans can be reinforced and consolidated and how the EU integration process can be speeded up.
This conference worked on and adopted a series of recommendations, which will be forwarded to the Western Balkans summit organised by the Spanish EU Presidency in early June in Sarajevo, and to the EU institutions.
Diana said:
"It was hugely satisfying to meet with Liberal parties from across the Western Balkans in this way. All were committed to the reform process in their own countries and I hope this is the start of how we as a Liberal group in the European Parliament can support this process."
The conference was organised in close co-operation with the Liberal Party of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
